Overdrive's homepage varies depending on if the user is logged into the service through their library or not. For instance, on the left is the Overdrive homepage with the option to "Find libraries near you" and on the right is an example of a library's homepage they design based on what services they want to feature, collections, etc. Hancock County Public Library recently obtained access to magazines through Overdrive, and is advertising this new service on their homepage.
Overdrive Overview
Overdrive (and it's newer app being rolled out to libraries soon, Libby) is a streaming and downloading service that offers a variety of audiobooks, ebooks, and magazines for patrons to checkout for varying amounts of time. Overdrive is different from Hoopla in that Overdrive is a curated collection by selectors, much like a print collection. Book Riot provides an excellent comparison between Overdrive, Libby, Hoopla, and more here.
Overdrive Accessibility Options
Offering ebooks, Overdrive also has an option for visually impaired readers by allowing screens to be set in high contrast to ease reading, as well as different font options for dyslexic readers.
Overdrive Search Strategies
Overdrive offers a variety of search narrowing strategies. Depending on your library's collection maturity of the search, there may be hundreds or no results that arise. Selecting more accurate search criteria--such as format, date, etc.--can aid immensely in yielding accurate search results.
